Umeå comeback stuns Ryazan

Umeå IK overturned a one-goal deficit to book a 4-1 win in the first leg of their quarter-final.

Sweden's Umeå IK overturned a one-goal deficit to book a 4-1 win in the first leg of their UEFA Womens' Cup quarter-final against TNK Ryazan on Sunday.

Equaliser seconds before break
There was little suggestion of the final outcome during a first half when the Russians pressed forward in search of the opening goal. It was Natalja Zintjenko who got it, curling home a free-kick from the edge of the box on the half-hour. Despite enjoying the majority of possession, Ryazan lost their lead just seconds before the break when Hanna Ljungberg shook off a couple of defenders and scored with a near-post finish.

Moström penalty
Equaliser or not, there must have some harsh words from coach Richard Holmlund as Umeå came out a changed team after the interval. However, they had to wait until 13 minutes from time before they finally took the lead when Malin Moström converted a penalty after Zintjenko had handled in the box.

Ljungberg's second
Bad turned to worse for the visitors three minutes later when Lotta Runesson made it 3-1 from close range and seconds later Ljungberg completed a dismal night for the Russians with her second goal of the match.
