Azzurre end year on a high

Italy 6-0 Serbia-Montenegro Italy impressed in Bagnarola as Valentina Boni and Patrizia Panico both scored twice in a convincing Group 1 win.

Italy impressed in Bagnarola today as they defeated Serbia and Montenegro 6-0 in a FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying tie.

Dominance confirmed
The Azzurre were set on their way to victory by Valentina Boni's double strike, on 20 and 28 minutes, and Patrizia Panico had made it 3-0 by the 40th minute. The home team's dominance was then confirmed by late goals from Teresina Marsico (76), Tatiana Zorri (84) and Panico (86) again.

Coach happy
The performance was another victory for coach Pietro Ghedin, who declared himself "hugely satisfied", adding: "The team worked hard, showed character and confirmed that we are progressing and getting better all the time."

Greece next
Italy are second in Group 1 after three games, three points behind a Norway side to whom they lost 1-0 away last Saturday. Both the front-runners have now finished their matches for the year, with Ghedin's side next in action against Greece on 29 March next year.
