Djurgården welcome English opposition to Stockholm for the first time as their maiden European semi-final appearance gets under way with a home first leg against two-time UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea in the UEFA Conference League last four.
As they had done in the round of 16, the Swedish club overcame a first-leg deficit to progress from the quarter-finals, defeating SK Rapid 4-1 after extra time in Vienna to seal a 4-2 aggregate victory.
Meanwhile, Chelsea lost for the first time in Europe this season in their quarter-final second leg against Legia Warszawa, but their 3-0 away win in the first leg proved enough despite that 1-2 home defeat.
This is a first meeting between the sides in UEFA competition and Djurgården's first game against an English club.
Form guide
Djurgården
Victories in their final four league phase matches helped Djurgården to a fifth-place finish and automatic qualification to the round of 16. That led them to a tie against Pafos; a 1-0 defeat in the away first leg was successfully overturned in the return fixture in Stockholm thanks to goals from Oskar Fallenius, Daniel Stensson and Tokmac Nguen that secured a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Djurgården's quarter-final victory against SK Rapid was their first appearance in the last eight of a European competition in 69 years; they are now into a UEFA semi-final for the first time in their history, becoming the first Swedish men's side to reach the last four of a major European competition since IFK Göteborg won the 1986/87 UEFA Cup.
Djurgården have won eight of their last ten two-legged European ties and six of their previous eight in the Conference League (L2). In total they have won ten European matches this season – equalling their own Swedish record in a single campaign set in 2022/23.
The Swedish side finished fourth in the 2024 Allsvenskan.
Finland's Jani Honkavaara replaced Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf, who had been in charge since 2018, as Djurgården head coach at the end of December.

Chelsea's last four meetings with teams from Sweden have all been against Malmö; they won all four, scoring ten goals and conceding just one, most recently triumphing 4-0 at home and 1-0 away in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League group stage.
This season the Blues won six out of six of their league phase matches to finish top, four points clear of any other team and with a record of 26 goals scored and just five conceded.
In the round of 16 they took on Danish side Copenhagen. Reece James and Enzo Fernández struck to give them a 2-1 victory in the away first leg, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall getting the only goal at Stamford Bridge.
Their quarter-final victory against Legia Warszawa (4-2 on aggregate) has led Chelsea to a 15th UEFA competition semi-final. They have progressed from seven of their previous 14 including four of their last five.
The west London side have won 12 of their last 14 two-legged European ties and have lost just one of their last 14 matches in European semi-finals (W5 D8).
Enzo Maresca's team have won their last five away games in the Conference League, scoring the opening goal in all six matches away from their own stadium.
