Meho Kodro will lead Bosnia-Herzegovina through their 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign after being installed as their new head coach.
Shortlist
Following the dismissal of Fuad Muzurović last month, the 40-year-old former national team captain was the unanimous choice of the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, seeing off competition from Lothar Matthäus and Zlatko Kranjčar. The former FC Barcelona striker does not have long to wait for his first match in charge, as a friendly in Japan is scheduled for 30 January.
'Great honour'
"It is a great honour to lead my country, especially since I played for the team," said Kodro, who scored three times in 13 outings for his country as well as making two appearances for the former Yugoslavia. "I'm expecting a difficult assignment, but I hope that together with the players and the supporters we can get off to a successful start in the section." The Bosnians face Spain, Turkey, Belgium, Armenia and Estonia in their quest to reach the finals in South Africa.
