Substitute Fernando Llorente headed an added-time winner as Spain were made to sweat for their 3-2 win against Saudi Arabia in Innsbruck.

Osama Hawsawi gave Saudi Arabia a shock 16th-minute lead and although David Villa and Xabi Alonso turned the contest around either side of half-time, Llorente's strike proved timely after Mohammed Al-Sahlawi (74) had made it 2-2.

There were chances at both ends in the early stages with Sergio Ramos heading the best opportunity wide for Vicente Del Bosque's team, yet it was Saudi Arabia who took the lead when Hawsawi headed Abdoh Autef's corner past Iker Casillas from ten metres.

Villa responded by bringing an excellent save from Waleed Abdullah but he did beat the goalkeeper on the half-hour mark with a clinical header from Andrés Iniesta's cross.

Spain increased their efforts after the interval and hit the front when Alonso drove in from 25 metres. Jesús Navas, Pedro Rodríguez, Carlos Marchena and Joan Capdevila made second-half appearances but it was Saudi Arabia substitute Al-Sahlawi who made the greater impact, levelling from the edge of the area.

Llorente, a 70th-minute replacement for Villa, went close on 83 minutes before heading in Alonso's stoppage-time corner to secure victory. The European champions begin their FIFA World Cup finals quest against Switzerland on 16 June before Group H matches against Honduras and Chile.
