Gygax strike pegs Italy back

Daniel Gygax cancelled out Alberto Gilardino's opening goal as fellow FIFA World Cup finalists Switzerland and Italy drew 1-1 at the Stade de Genève.

Cannavaro impressive
Boosted by the inclusion of Francesco Totti for the first time since he broke his leg in February, Italy scored after ten minutes as lone striker Gilardino turned in Fabio Grosso's cross from the left. Azzurri captain Fabio Cannavaro played superbly to keep the home side at bay, but was powerless to prevent Gygax finding the net in the 33rd minute. Italy remain in Switzerland for a match against Ukraine in Lausanne on Friday, while the Swiss meet China the following day in Zurich.
