Klinsmann close to Germany call

Jürgen Klinsmann is in talks with the German Football Association with a view to becoming coach.

New York talks
The DFB confirmed on its website that negotiations had taken place with the California-based Klinsmann in New York on Tuesday. The former Germany striker met with DFB president Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder and another official, Horst R Schmidt.

'Constructive and open'
"In New York we had constructive and open talks for five hours, in which we analysed the situation of the German team. I emphasised that I am prepared to help in creating and realizing new structures. We agreed to continue our talks," said Klinsmann.

Offer accepted
"I was happy that the DFB accepted my offer to help preparing for the 2006 World Cup. This will be the most important event in Germany for the next 40 years. It is clear that I will help in some capacity," the 39-year-old continued.

Experienced campaigner
The DFB also held talks with the experienced Holger Osieck - West Germany's assistant coach at the 1990 World Cup and a member of FIFA's technical department - in Zurich on Wednesday. Osieck spoke to Mayer-Vorfelder, Schmidt and Franz Beckenbauer, and could work alongside Klinsmann.

Bierhoff talk
According to reports, Klinsmann could also be assisted by his former international colleague, Oliver Bierhoff, who has been lined up for the role of team manager.
