Campos farewell
The match was billed as a farewell for former Mexican international goalkeeper Jorge Campos, who was famous for wearing outrageous luminous kits. Campos appeared as a substitute in the 64th minute but played up front.
Near miss
Neither side was able to make the breakthrough during a largely lacklustre encounter, and the game ended scoreless in front of around 15,000 spectators at the San Francisco Giants stadium. Iceland finished third in UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying Group 5, missing out on second position – and the play-offs – by a single point.
