Main event for Ligue du Maine

Ligue Du Maine Amateur reached the UEFA Regions' Cup final with a 4-2 win against Geyazan Amateur.

Ligue Du Maine Amateur reached the UEFA Regions' Cup final with a 4-2 win against Geyazan Amateur.

Initiative stolen
Four goals in the final 30 minutes of the game saw the French side steal the initiative away from their Azerbaijani opponents, who had maintained their lead and even increased it after being reduced to ten men.

Group winners
The victory, coupled with a 6-0 defeat for District Noord Amateur against Szabolcs Gabona Csoport Amateur in the earlier Group B game in Friedrichshafen, guaranteed Ligue du Maine a place in the final with one game remaining. Even if the Hungarian side win their remaining game and Ligue du Maine lose, the French challengers will qualify thanks to a better head-to-head record than Szabolcs.

French dominance
However, it was not looking hopeful for Logie's side despite dominating long spells of play in the first half. The ever-dangerous Zaour Ramazanov was at his best again after just eight minutes, slipping the French offside trap to score the opening goal.

Lead doubled
Even having Eldaniz Mammadov dismissed for a second bookable offence a minute into added time in the first half did not dampen Geyazan's ardour. They were two goals to the good four minutes into the second half as Roushan Suleymanov beat Sébstien Monce for a second time.

Missaye to the rescue
However, Jonas Missaye came to the rescue again, opening his side's account and scoring his ninth goal since the qualifying rounds after 58 minutes. Sébastien Bigarret then took control, scoring in the 62nd and 76th minutes to give Ligue du Maine the lead, before Cyril Froger added a fourth with eight minutes remaining.

Final preparations
"I am very happy that it is over," said Ligue du Maine coach René Logie. "It was a very hard match. They are a very tricky side. This was definitely our most difficult game of the tournament. Tomorrow we can unwind and prepare for the final."
