Muscle problems
The 33-year-old former German international has suffered from muscle problems in his back all season and after discussions with Bayern team doctor Franz-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt it was decided to proceed with surgery. Scholl underwent the operation in Berlin today.
Disrupted season
Scholl, whose contract with Bayern expires next summer, has managed only three Bundesliga and one UEFA Champions League appearance for the club this season, and is yet to complete a game. He is unlikely to be back in action until the new year.
