McGeady signs new Celtic deal

Celtic FC have agreed a new four-year contract with their exciting midfield prospect Aiden McGeady.

Celtic FC have agreed a new four-year contract with their impressive teenage midfield player Aiden McGeady. The 18-year-old has signed on at Parkhead until 2008 after making a startling impact in the closing weeks of last season.

Debut goal
McGeady scored on his debut for the Scottish champions against Heart of Midlothian FC in April and then made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland in a 1-0 victory over Jamaica on 2 June. Although born in Scotland, the teenager was able to pledge his allegiance to Brian Kerr's because his grandfather comes from Ireland.

'Looking forward'
After signing his new contract, McGeady said: "I'm really looking forward to working with all the other players to try and achieve more success for the club. I was fortunate enough to feature in the first team last season and I will be working hard to try and establish myself as a regular first-team player next season and beyond."

'Enormous potential'
O'Neill, his manager, added: "Without wanting to talk players up, Aiden has enormous potential and I am delighted he thinks he can realise this here at Celtic."
