Instep inflammation
The French international playmaker left the pitch an hour into Sunday's 4-0 friendly victory against Tokyo Verdy in Japan after an opponent trod on his left foot. Zidane has bruising and inflammation to the instep and is taking a course of anti-inflammatories.
Further tests
He will undergo further tests once the team return to Madrid on Monday afternoon, and will miss Thursday's friendly against Getafe CF in Alicante. Madrid's third qualifying round first-leg trip to FC WIT Georgia or Wisla Kraków is less than a week later.
Borja absence
Meanwhile, Zidane's fellow midfield player Borja Fernández is to undergo surgery on a broken toe. The 23-year-old will have the operation on Wednesday and could face two months on the sidelines.
