Milan duo target last 16

FC Internazionale Milano and AC Milan can reach the first knockout round tonight against Spanish opposition.

Win wanted
A fortnight ago, Milan won 1-0 at home against FC Barcelona and another three points at Camp Nou would make certain of progression. "Experience tells us it's better to qualify as quickly as possible," said Milan captain Paolo Maldini, aware that the Rossoneri did just that in both group stages during their triumphant 2002/03 campaign. Also in Group F, Celtic FC, without a point, will be eliminated if beaten by FC Shakhtar Donetsk, while a defeat and any positive result for Barça would end their UEFA Cup hopes.

Point enough
Inter, who unlike Milan need just a point, welcome Valencia CF to the San Siro knowing the Primera División champions will want revenge for the 5-1 defeat in the reverse Group G fixture last time. The section's bottom team, RSC Anderlecht, travel to in-form Werder Bremen, mindful that defeat would end their Champions League ambitions.

Porto still alive
Although Chelsea FC can book their place in the last 16 by winning at PFC CSKA Moskva in the day's early game, the rest of Group H is still pretty open. Despite having just one point, defending champions FC Porto possess a realistic chance of qualifying provided they can get a victory at home against Paris Saint-Germain FC.

Close call
Things are even tighter in Group E. PSV Eindhoven lead the way and will feel they have every chance of extending their advantage at home against Rosenborg BK, having won away at the newly crowned Norwegian champions last time out. Pre-competition favourites Arsenal FC, who like Milan, Inter and Chelsea are still unbeaten, welcome Panathinaikos FC in the other game.
