Trio suspended for Matchday 4

While big names return from suspension for Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League, three other players including Paul Scholes must serve bans.

Scholes suspension
While Rooney becomes available for Manchester United FC's trip to LOSC Lille Métropole in Group D, team-mate Paul Scholes sits out the match having been sent off in the clubs' encounter at Old Trafford two weeks ago. Fenerbahçe SK forward Alex also saw red on Matchday 3, in the 3-3 draw against FC Schalke 04, and must watch the return fixture in Germany from the sidelines.

Mixed fortunes for Madrid
The third suspended player is Pablo García of Real Madrid CF. The defensive midfielder collected yellow cards in each of Madrid's first three games in Group F. He drops out while team-mate Sergio Ramos comes back in alongside Rooney, Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV Eindhoven), Vidigal (Udinese Calcio) and Ivan Klasnić (Werder Bremen).

Disciplinary tightrope
As sides prepare for their fourth outing in this season's competition, it is perhaps no surprise that various players are walking a disciplinary tightrope, being one caution away from a suspension, having picked up two already. Twenty-one players are in this situation, with Liverpool FC, Real Betis Balompié, FC Schalke 04 and FC Artmedia Bratislava among the clubs affected.
