Sanogo has high hopes at Hamburg

Boubacar Sanogo has revealed his pride at joining Hamburger SV, with the Ivorian striker the latest talented youngster to join the Bundesliga runners-up.

Hamburger SV have completed the signing of Boubacar Sanogo from relegated Bundesliga rivals 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Debut chance
The 23-year-old Ivorian striker had been contracted to Kaiserslautern until 2009 but has been sold to the northern club for €3.5m. He has already trained with his new colleagues, having passed a medical, and could play in tonight's League Cup semi-final at Werder Bremen. The traditional pre-season competition will provide useful preparation for Hamburg as they welcome CA Osasuna next week in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie.

'Proud'
"Hamburg are a big club with a big tradition and a super team," Sanogo said. "It makes me proud to be at this club." Before moving to Kaiserslautern for the 2005/06 campaign, when he scored ten goals in 24 games, Sanogo had been with UAE side Al Ain FC, achieving Asian continental success in 2003. The uncapped forward is not the only talented youngster to arrive in Hamburg this summer with José Paolo Guerrero, 22, and Vincent Kompany, 20, also signing for last season's Bundesliga runners-up.
