Zenden adds to Reds worries

Boudewijn Zenden's knee injury has compounded Liverpool FC's midfield problems ahead of their UEFA Champions League Group C tie at Galatasaray SK.

Liverpool FC will be without Boudewijn Zenden for their final UEFA Champions League Group C match against Galatasaray SK in Istanbul next Tuesday after the midfielder sustained a knee ligament injury.

Trio injured
The 30-year-old former Dutch international, who missed most of last season with a cruciate ligament injury, will be sidelined for five weeks. That leaves Liverpool with only once recognised central midfielder in Steven Gerrard, with Mohamed Sissoko and Xabi Alonso also out of action for the foreseeable future.

Midfield problem
It is unlikely to be a serious concern for Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez as Liverpool have already clinched first place in Group C, although Liverpool do have a hectic domestic schedule starting with the visit of Portsmouth FC to Anfield on Wednesday night. Benítez said: "It's a big blow for us to lose 'Bolo' [Zenden]. He is a big help to all the players here because he mixes very well. Steven Gerrard is now our only fit central midfielder, so there's no debate about where he's going to play."
