Muslin parts with Crvena Zvezda

FK Crvena Zvezda coach Slavoljub Muslin has resigned - and decided to take a job in Ukraine.

Successful season
Muslin has just guided Crvena Zvezda to a 23rd league title and 20th cup success but decided to leave after disagreements with club officials. It is not yet known who will replace him with Crvena Zvezda, who will compete in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League, pledging to take their time in finding a successor.

Differing view
"After talking with the club president Dragan Dzajic, we concluded that it was best for me and the club to leave now," Muslin said. "When I came we had big plans to win the double. This we have achieved. The problems began when we started planning for the future. I had big plans and wanted Zvezda to go in another direction but I do not have any influence, so it is better for me to go."

Good relations
Dzajic said the club did their best to keep the 53-year-old Muslin. He added: "We had a telephone conversation and Muslin announced that he is leaving. The conversation was short. We wished each other success and so ended our co-operation." Regarding Muslin's replacement, he said: "We still have time and I will think thoroughly about our new coach."

Much interest
Muslin's future now lies with Metalurh, with whom he has signed a two-year deal. Dutchman Ton Kaanen, a temporary appointment after Aleksandr Sevidov's dismissal, will remain in charge of Metalurh - fourth in the Ukrainian Premier League as the season approaches its conclusion - until Muslin takes over in the summer.
