Two Icelandic internationals with a 15-year age difference but the same aim of playing at UEFA EURO 2016 have signed for Norwegian clubs in the hope of improving their prospects of a place in France.
Former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohsen, who has scored 25 goals in 84 games for Iceland, had been without a club since leaving Chinese side Shijiazhuang at the end of 2015.
The 37-year-old, who made three EURO qualifying appearances, scoring once, has agreed a one-year contract with Molde, where he will be coached by former Manchester United forward Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
Also playing his club football in Norway for the foreseeable future is Aron Sigurdarson, who has accepted a three-year deal with Tromsö. The 22-year-old midfielder made his international debut against the United States on 31 January, registering in a 3-2 Iceland defeat.
"I think I'll play a lot at Tromsö," said Sigurdarson, who scored 23 goals in 103 matches for Fjölnir. "It's great to start up my career here, which will increase my chances of making it to France. Suddenly, that's now a real possibility."
