Lazaro surges into provisional Austria squad

Salzburg midfielder Valentino Lazaro, 20, has done enough to earn a place in Austria coach Marcel Koller's 24-man initial selection for UEFA EURO 2016.

Guido Burgstaller, Karim Onisiwo and Florian Grillitsch have all missed the initial cut as Austria named a 24-man squad for their pre-UEFA EURO 2016 training camp, and friendlies against Malta and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Salzburg midfielder Valentino Lazaro has earned a place in the selection thanks to some impressive performances in recent games for the Austrian champions. He has represented his country four times to date, but has been with the national Under-21 squad more recently.

Austria coach Marcel Koller has named a 24-man squad rather than the 23 required for the final tournament "We've called up 24 players because we don't know exactly who'll be available for the training camp," he explained. "One or two might join up with us later as a result of the relegation play-off in the German Bundesliga."
