Giampiero Ventura, 68, will succeed Antonio Conte as Italy coach after UEFA EURO 2016.

Italian Football Federation (FIGC) president Carlo Tavecchio confirmed on Tuesday that Ventura, who stepped down from the Torino helm last month, will take over after Conte leaves for Chelsea once the Azzurri's tournament is over.

Ventura, who counts Lecce, Sampdoria, Napoli, Cagliari, Udinese and Bari among his former employers, guided Torino to promotion to Serie A in 2011/12. He took them to the UEFA Europa League round of 16 in 2014/15.

"One of the reasons I chose Ventura is that he is a great football teacher," said Tavecchio. "He has inspired many other coaches with his innovation; he also has a great deal of experience with young players.

"I first thought about him a month ago and I haven't changed my mind since then, so I can say that Giampiero Ventura will be Italy's coach after the European Championship, with a two-year contract until the World Cup in Russia."

Italy open their UEFA EURO 2016 campaign against Belgium on 13 June.
