Swiss expect England siege

Switzerland are expecting - and prepared for - an early England assault when they meet in Group B on Thursday.

Days of frustration
Having been on course for an opening-night victory against France in Lisbon on Sunday, England ended up losing as Zinedine Zidane struck twice in added time. Switzerland coach Jakob Kuhn, whose side drew
0-0 with Croatia on the same day, is aware that the smarting English will now want to vent four days of frustration at the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra.

Kuhn relaxed
"The start of the match will be extremely dangerous for us," said a relaxed Kuhn in Óbidos. "England will have no fear against us, particularly as they need to win this match, but if we resist them in the first 15 minutes they could start to get anxious. Our goal is to play the best football we can, not to speculate about the result. If everyone's on their game then I'll be happy in the changing room afterwards."

Celestini in
As usual, Kuhn will tell his players "tonight or tomorrow morning" who will start against England. No surprises are expected, meaning Fabio Celestini will be the only change as he deputises for the suspended Johann Vogel, sent off against Croatia. Goalkeeper Jörg Stiel and midfield player Benjamin Huggel are both a caution away from missing the Group B decider against France.

'Perfectly prepared'
Kuhn said of England: "It would be unrealistic to single out one or two players who might pose a threat. I could read out their entire lineup as they have eleven dangerous players. To me it looks as though they are perfectly prepared. Sheer bad luck undid their good work in the first match."

Frei belief
A draw would leave the Swiss ahead of England with one match to go, but striker Alexander Frei refused to contemplate playing for a point. "We can win and want to," he said. "We can't afford to defend with eleven players and hope that the good lord helps us. We have to believe in our strengths."

Yakin warning
Although they may not need it, Switzerland have received extra motivation from the English media, who labelled the opening draw against Croatia as "the worst ever match" at a UEFA European Championship. "It would be nice if they continue to underestimate us," said Hakan Yakin. England have been warned.
