FC Porto have loaned out Pena, Fredrik Söderström and José Carlos Sousa for the rest of the season.
Article body
FC Porto's Brazilian striker Pena has joined French club RC Strasbourg as one of three players to leave the club on season-long loans.
Surplus to requirements
Strasbourg resisted competition from CR Flamengo to secure the year's loan deal for Pena, the leading scorer in Portugal's 1. Liga in 2000/01. Also surplus to requirements were Swedish midfield player Fredrik Söderström and full-back José Carlos Sousa.
Refused offers
Söderström finally agreed to join R. Standard de Liège in Belgium, after refusing offers from Portuguese side CS Marítimo and Spanish club UD Las Palmas. Right-back Sousa, a former SL Benfica player, has returned to Lisbon to join CF Belenenses as part of the deal that took midfield player César Peixoto to Porto.
