Maccarone makes Siena switch

Massimo Maccarone has opted to spend the rest of his loan spell at AC Siena rather than Parma FC.

Massimo Maccarone will not play in the knockout rounds of the UEFA Cup after opting to spend the rest of the season on loan from Middlesbrough FC at AC Siena rather than Parma FC.

Knee injury
The 25-year-old Italian never settled in England following a €12m transfer from Empoli FC and hoped a summer return to his homeland would revitalise his career. However, he damaged his knee in a UEFA Cup match in October and played just seven Serie A games without scoring for Parma, although he was twice on target in Europe.

Relegation places
Siena are 18th in the 20-team Italian top flight, a point and a place above Parma. Maccarone could make his debut for the Tuscan side when they travel to AC Chievo Verona on Thursday.
