Németh strengthens Strasbourg attack

French side RC Strasbourg have signed Slovakian international striker Szilárd Németh from UEFA Cup rivals Middlesbrough FC for a nominal fee.

Limited opportunities
The 28-year-old, who has scored 21 times in 56 appearances for his country, moved to England in 2001 but has struggled to win a regular role in the Middlesbrough team, registering 23 goals in 117 Premiership games. He has found opportunities increasingly hard to come by, starting just one league match this season, although he did find the target on his last outing in an English League Cup tie against Crystal Palace FC on 30 November.

Scoring problems
Strasbourg will hope Németh - who has agreed a six-month deal - can bolster an attack that has mustered just 14 goals in 23 Ligue 1 games, the third-lowest total in the French top flight. The Slovakian, however, will be ineligible for the remainder of his new side's UEFA Cup campaign, having featured four times for Middlesbrough in the competition. Strasbourg face Bulgarian club PFC Litex Lovech in the Round of 32 on 15 and 23 February.
