Article body
Odense BK are celebrating their best result in Europe in over a decade after Mads Timm's second-half goal secured their place in the UEFA Cup group stage at Hertha BSC Berlin's expense.
Deflected free-kick
Timm's deflected free-kick after 62 minutes proved enough to earn a 3-2 aggregate success for Bruce Rioch's side following their commendable 2-2 draw in the German capital a fortnight ago. OB had to survive one or two scares before getting the decisive goal, however, as Hertha took the game to their hosts and missed chances through Patrick Ebert and Kevin-Prince Boateng.
'Caught napping'
Hertha coach Falko Götz lamented afterwards: "We started decently and had a few chances but we were caught napping for the goal." OB's last notable European victory came in 1994 when they claimed the scalp of Real Madrid CF in the same competition but they can now look forward to next Tuesday's draw for the group stage.
