Belhadj looks to impress at Portsmouth

Nadir Belhadj has joined English UEFA Cup hopefuls Portsmouth FC on a season-long loan from French side RC Lens, with the 26-year-old looking to earn a permanent move across the Channel at the end of the campaign

English appeal
The 25-times capped Algerian international has played for FC Gueugnon, CS Sedan-Ardennes and Olympique Lyonnais, from whom he joined Lens last season. He is now eager to impress in England, saying: "I am delighted to be at Pompey because it's a very good club with great players. I like the English people and I like English football, so this is an excellent opportunity for me." Portsmouth meet Vitória SC in their UEFA Cup first round tie on 18 September and 2 October, looking to earn a place in the group stage in their debut European campaign.
