The Amsterdam outfit's captain injured his left ankle during Sunday's 5-2 Dutch league win against Sparta Rotterdam, being substituted for Evander Sno after heading Ajax into the lead. Huntelaar has torn an anterior ankle ligament and faces a minimum month-and-a-half lay-off. The 25-year-old will miss the club's UEFA Cup Group F fixture against Hamburger SV on 27 November and is a major doubt for the meeting with SK Slavia Praha on 17 December.
Sno solution
He will also sit out the Netherlands' friendly international next Wednesday against Sweden. Huntelaar, who has scored six goals in ten Eredivisie matches this season, may be replaced during his absence by Sno – nominally a midfielder – given the injuries to fellow forwards Dario Cvitanich and Miralem Sulejmani.
