The former Italian international, who will turn 33 next month, slipped a disc last summer but opted for natural treatment rather than having an operation. He was added to Milan's UEFA Cup squad list and was in the running to make his first appearance this term in Sunday's derby against FC Internazionale Milano, but on Friday felt pain and underwent further tests. The Rossoneri said Nesta will go under the knife on Tuesday, and although it is not known how long the defender will be sidelined, it is unlikely he will recover to play again this campaign. Milan travel to Werder Bremen on Wednesday for the first leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie.
