With the start of the Bundesliga season just two days away, Hertha BSC Berlin have strengthened their defence through the signing of centre-back Rasmus Bengtsson from Trelleborgs FF for an undisclosed fee.

'A good fit'
The 23-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at Hertha and the club's sporting director, Michael Preetz, said: "We are very happy to have signed Rasmus Bengtsson. As a former Under-21 and current senior Swedish international, he was courted by several of Europe's top clubs." Coach Lucien Favre added: "Our scouts have been watching him for quite a while, not least during the Under-21s in Sweden. Rasmus is a player who can still be improved, but who has been developed very well and is therefore a good fit for us."

Commanding figure
The 1.86m-tall Bengtsson played every minute of Sweden's UEFA European U21 Championship campaign in June which ended in a semi-final penalty shoot-out defeat by England. He spent four years at Trelleborg racking up 73 Allsvenskan appearances while scoring ten goals and said: "I am looking forward to Hertha, Berlin and the Bundesliga." Hertha discover their UEFA Europa League play-off round opponents on Friday when the draw is made and the next day open their league season at home to Hannover 96.
