While FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and Sevilla FC slug it out in Warsaw to determine the winner of this season's UEFA Europa League, there will be high excitement for Fantasy managers, especially those at the top of the rankings with their eyes on the grand prize.
My chances of finishing top of the pile have evaporated in recent matchdays, with the failure of SSC Napoli's Gonzalo Higuaín, my captain, to score in either of the two semi-final matches (Dnipro keeper Denis Boyko repeatedly denied him) leaving me deeply frustrated.
I managed 37 points last time out – thanks chiefly to Carlos Bacca's goal, Yevhen Konoplyanka's assist and a clean sheet for Stéphane Mbia – but, as on the previous matchday, the tally could and should have been much higher.
Dnipro's unexpected victory over Napoli was a bit of a blow for me, but while it would be a remarkable triumph if they could end Sevilla's perfect record in UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League finals (three wins out of three), I can't really see that happening. The Ukrainian side have a strong defence, with Boyko and centre-back Douglas to the fore, but I expect the holders to do what they couldn't manage in last year's final against SL Benfica and score.
With six members of my semi-final second leg starting XI now eliminated and six free transfers for the final, I won't have to sacrifice any points from my total. Indeed, I already have three eligible players sitting on the subs' bench – Sevilla keeper Sergio Rico and left-back Benoît Trémoulinas plus the aforementioned Douglas – and am tempted to bring all of them into the team, which would leave me with just three places to fill, two in midfield and one up front.
With just two teams now to pick from, the choice is of course very limited, so I shall wait until the lineups are announced before making my selections – though it may be worth keeping a place open for an impact sub, such as Kevin Gameiro (Sevilla) or Nikola Kalinić (Dnipro).
As I think Sevilla will win, their players will dominate my selection. The rules allow you to fill all 11 starting spots with players from one team, but that's a go-for-broke strategy, so I shall keep a handful of places open for Dnipro's finest.
As usual, I shall be tweeting further thoughts and advice on the day of the game.
Enjoy the final!
