Eager Ottl extends Bayern stay

Having joined FC Bayern München as an Under-12 in 1996, midfielder Andreas Ottl was delighted to add three years to his deal with the Bundesliga leaders.

FC Bayern München midfielder Andreas Ottl has signed a three-year contract extension with his hometown club. "I'm delighted things have worked out," said Ottl, who joined the Bundesliga leaders as an Under-12 in 1996.

Double winner
Ottl's deal was due to expire this summer but he will now stay at the Fußball Arena München until 30 June 2011. A member of Bayern's 2006 double-winning team, the German Under-21 international has made 39 Bundesliga appearances, though just seven this term because of the excellent form of Zé Roberto and Mark van Bommel.

'Determined to make breakthrough'
"I know it'll be difficult for me but I'm determined to make the breakthrough here," said Ottl. "I've proved my worth at the highest level and reckon I have a chance here. Also, I'm only 22 so still have time to develop. I can easily improve by a few per cent and that's to my advantage." Bayern meet Aberdeen FC in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup on 14 and 21 February.
