Article body
Besiktas JK defender Zago will miss both legs of the Turkish side's UEFA Cup quarter-final after receiving a two-match suspension from UEFA.
Kicked out at opponent
The Brazilian's sanction follows his sending-off in the first leg of Besiktas's fourth-round tie against SK Slavia Praha. Zago was dismissed six minutes from the end of the 1-0 defeat in Prague after aiming a kick at Slavia's Karel Pitak.
Previous suspension
Although Zago did not make contact with Pitak, UEFA considered this dangerous play and also took into account a previous European suspension after a spitting incident in the 2000/01 season, while he was an AS Roma player.
Three days to appeal
Zago has until midnight on Monday 3 March to appeal against the ban. Besiktas beat Slavia 4-2 in last night's return in Istanbul and will face either Wisla Kraków or S.S. Lazio in the last eight.
