Trophy presentation
Inaugurated on 28 February, to coincide with the Benfica club's centenary celebrations, the state of the art arena will provide a superb backdrop for the trophy celebrations of either Benfica or their fellow finalists Boomerang Interviu FS on 1 May. The first leg is being played in Madrid on 24 April.
High praise
The first sports event to be staged in the Pavilhão da Luz was the UEFA Futsal Cup second qualifying round back in March. Benfica hosted the four-team mini-tournament, which also featured Prato C/5 of Italy, MNK Split of Croatia and Action 21 Charleroi of Belgium. All three clubs paid tribute to the facilities, which meet the highest standards.
Plenty of facilities
The Pavilhão da Luz is a 2,434 all-seater arena, with another similar venue right next door. It boasts three giant electronic hoardings with the most prominent being the four-sided video screen right in the centre above the playing area. There are also ten changing rooms, a medical centre, doping test rooms and ample media facilities.
Football final
The architect Damon Lavelle, from the well-known HOK Sports firm, designed the arena. It also forms part of the new Estádio da Luz complex, the stunning football venue which will host, on 4 July, the final of the UEFA EURO 2004™ tournament.
