Perugia poser for Boomerang

Boomerang Interviú FS's meeting with Erregi Travel Perugia was a highlight of the first qualifying round draw held in Nyon, Switzerland.

By Greg Demetriou in Nyon

A meeting of Boomerang Interviú FS and Erregi Travel Perugia was one of the highlights of today's 2005/06 UEFA Futsal Cup first qualifying round draw in Switzerland.

Two from Belgium
In all, 34 clubs representing 33 countries have entered this season's competition. Belgium's top team Action 21 Charleroi qualify as reigning champions, having beaten MFK Dinamo Moskva in the 2004/05 final, meaning Belgian runners-up Cristal Noir MB Morlanwelz are able to take part. Charleroi will go to Poland in Group 6 while Dinamo are off to the Czech Republic in Group 2. If each win their pools, they will meet in March's second qualifying round along with the Group 4 and 8 winners for two places in the new semi-final stage.

Spanish success
Spanish side Boomerang, the winners in 2004, will have a tricky obstacle when they face Perugia in Group 7. The Italian side will be staging the mini-tournament, which like all eight groups will be played on a round-robin basis. SL Benfica of Portugal, the club Boomerang beat in the 2004 final, will play in Group 3 in Hungary. Those sides will also have a second-stage rematch if they come through.

Fifth edition
Now in its fifth edition, the UEFA Futsal Cup has been largely a Spanish success story with Playas de Castellón FS having claimed the first two titles in 2002 and 2003, both at Charleroi's expense.

London calling
The competition will get started from 10-16 September when English representatives FC White Bear London stage a four-team preliminary round mini-tournament involving France's first-ever representatives Roubaix Futsal. The top two sides from that stage will progress to the first qualifying round, which will be played between 8 and 14 October.
