Article body
Aleksandr Shibaev played for seven different football clubs, the highlight being a spell in the UEFA Cup with FC Spartak Moskva, before injury curtailed his career in the eleven-a-side game. With Futsal emerging as a major sport in Russia at the time, Shibaev took the opportunity to switch codes and was soon impressing for SKA Rostov, MFK Spartak Moskva and MFK Norilsky Nickel.
Three titles
After hanging up his shoes, Shibaev turned to coaching in 1999 as part of Norilsky Nickel's backroom staff while honing his skills at the helm of Russia's student national team. He joined MFK Dinamo Moskva in 2002 and adpoted both assistant and head coach duties. It was in the latter guise, in 2002/03, that he oversaw Dinamo's title triumph, a crown they would successfully defend in both 2004 and 2005. The Muscovites also reached the UEFA Futsal Cup final in that latter campaign, losing to Action 21 Charleroi.
Nerves
An unflappable character on the sidelines, Shibaev is very much the club's main man this season and the 44-year-old insisted he was not nervous on the eve of the final. "I don't really feel the hype," he said. "The nerves may come later." Despite portraying a calm and collected demeanour, Shibaev insisted he does express emotion. "This is a false impression," he said. "Of course I have feelings, especially now that the season is approaching its climax and that every game is key."
