Fernandinho's late clincher causes Kairat regrets

Fernandinho confessed that it was a training-ground routine which had precipitated the end of Kairat Almaty's one-year reign as European champions, after his late close-range goal from Romulo's free-kick earned FC Dynamo a 2-1 victory in Thursday's Baku semi-final. While the Russian club could look forward to a UEFA Futsal Cup final against FC Barcelona this weekend, Kairat's goalscorer Danilo Baron lamented the fact that the "better team" had not necessarily won.

The emotions are a bit difficult right now. We had worked and trained so hard for this match, and for us not to come out with the victory is frustrating. Sadly we were unable to kill the game despite having the opportunities and, I think, being the better team. We are a good team, we wanted to show we are the best, but unfortunately we couldn't get the win.

It was pleasing to play well on a personal level, but the team and the result was the important thing. I'll keep working hard and we'll keep our heads up. We have to move on and try to get that third place, which is very important for the club.

Kazakhstani futsal is in a really good moment in terms of its development. Our supporters, club directors and our president are here – they contribute a lot and we have to do our bit on the pitch.

I think the first half was even enough. They had a few early opportunities, then we came back into it. It was a very tough and very tactical game. Matches like that, in a semi-final between two great teams, are going to be decided by small details and on the day these weren't in our favour.

I'm really happy after that game, it was a great game and I'd like to congratulate Kairat on their performance. They were excellent and so we were, but it ended in our favour and I'm delighted. Now we need to rest ahead of the final.

I think we can play better on Saturday. Today we have to do a lot of defending because they managed to create a lot of five on four situations. It was tough but now we have a great game to look forward to and we'll have to give absolutely everything in order to get that trophy.

As for my goal, Romulo and I always practise that set-piece routine in training. His delivery excellent and I was in the right place at the back post.  I was made up to get the goal and help the team. I'd like to congratulate all the boys on their great work today.

We're in good form and have been having a great season in Russia. But we know the quality of the opposition will be high and we'll have to be at our best to win the final. Barcelona and Araz are really strong and we'll be watching them closely in their semi-final.

We congratulate Dynamo on their win, because they put in a great performance. Even so, I find the outcome of this game a bit unfair. We were good and we managed to create a lot of dangerous moments around their goal, but to win you also have to capitalise on your chances. That said, I compliment my players on their commitment. Of course we are down, but I really believe we can claim back the title next year. As for now we're going to prepare for the third-place play-off.

Firstly I want to thank the organisers – and obviously I congratulate my team on their victory. We played a decent game, although I think things were pretty even between the two sides. Kairat showed great strength. They managed to cause us a lot of problems with a flying goalkeeper, but we studied their tactics and were ready for them. Now there is no difference who we play in the final [between Barcelona and Araz] but Spain always has a special place in my heart.
