Italy epitomise U17 ethos

Italy topped the UEFA European Under-17 Championship fair play rankings.

Italy topped the UEFA European Under-17 Championship fair play rankings after an amazingly good-natured tournament in which not one red card was brandished during the course of 16 matches, or 1,440 minutes of football.

Lupoli collects only card
The Italians were knocked out in the group stage after finishing third in Group B. In the course of their three matches they collected just one booking (Arturo Lupoli against Israel) to edge the fair play prize ahead of Denmark, who were issued with two yellow cards in their three games.

Festival of football
All in all, as well as being a real festival of football, the U17 finals also proved to be a superb example of the virtues of fair play.
