Peacock pride in English power

Group B reaction: uefa.com spoke to each of the coaches for their reaction to the games on Thursday.

ENGLAND 3-1 PORTUGAL:
John Peacock, England

"I'm absolutely delighted. Games between Portugal and England are always close encounters, and we got off to a smashing start with a good set-piece. I felt we then let them into the game too quickly after that, and then Portugal were in the ascendancy. We suffered a little bit psychologically from giving a goal away so early after we'd scored, so I felt we had to regroup at half-time, put the Portuguese under more pressure and I felt we then dominated the game. We were much the better team in the second half. We were stronger than Portugal today."

Carlos Dinis, Portugal
"It was a good quality match, although conceding a goal so early made it much more difficult. But the players reacted well, we created a number of opportunities, and I think we played well in the first half. I suppose that, as the match wore on, we tired and made mistakes, not just in defence. From one of those mistakes, England scored again and I think we were a bit naïve. We started very well but after the second goal, we dropped off. Until that goal, we controlled the match – England's chances came from our mistakes rather than any particular creativity. After falling behind we tried to regroup but we made a lot of mistakes in midfield and defence. By taking risks, sometimes you are vulnerable, and that's what happened for the third goal."

UKRAINE 1-2 AUSTRIA:
Viktor Kaschey, Ukraine

"My players did better than in the first match, so I have no complaints. Again, however, luck was on the side of our opponents. We had several periods of possession and ascendancy during the game but we were not able to capitalise. We should have been able to win this game but we could not convert the chances we created."

Paul Gludovatz, Austria
"We were lucky. There was no room to play in the first half - it was what we in Austria call 'strangling football'. In the second half we played better and had more chances to score, so I think that 2-1 is a fair result because we were more effective, had more possession and defended better than the Ukrainians. We have been in better physical shape [than the opposition] in both games so far, have played well defensively and have an excellent counterattacking game. We knew that Ukraine would have a good team as they eliminated Germany, and they had excellent skills in midfield and Oleksandr Gladkyy up front. They were difficult to play against and showed today that they can play as a team, so we must be happy that we were able to beat them."
