Coaches contemplate their fates

Group A reaction: While Italy and Turkey were celebrating, England and Belarus faced up to trips home.

Hosts Italy finished top of UEFA European Under-17 Championship Group A thanks to a 1-0 win that ended England's campaign, with Turkey in second after they defeated Belarus 5-1. Italy had goalkeeper Enrico Alfonso dismissed for dissent late in their game, while Belarus lost Aleh Veratsila to a red card for handball, conceding the penalty from which Turkey opened the scoring. In the last a four Italy play the Netherlands and Turkey face Croatia, as uefa.com rounds up the coaches' reaction.

ENGLAND 0-1 ITALY
John Peacock, England coach

I have no complaint with the result, we didn't play very well today. All credit to the Italian team, they worked very hard at putting us under a lot of pressure and stopped us from playing. There were many free-kicks in the game, which spoiled the momentum, and we never really got going. I knew that they would pressurise our players, I thought we had enough technically in our team to overcome the pressure, but there were too many unforced errors today. If there's anything we can take out of the game is we have to handle that pressure. Our game-plan was to work the ball out of tight areas, but we didn't get the ball to where we had more space. That's a disappointment and something we have to work on. I wish the Italians and the other three teams that have gone through every success.

Francesco Rocca, Italy coach
We had to prepare well for this match because we knew England were very difficult. But at the start the English team were suffering from the heat and the pressure of this match. Today we played well, nothing special but good. We tried to win by more than 1-0. I am sorry for Alfonso, he is crying at missing the next match. Before this championship the players worked very hard and now we see the fruits of the labour. I wanted us to improve from the first two matches, when we did not play well. I want to thank my players for the spirit they show in training. We had two fast players to deal with, [Theo] Walcott and [Myles] Weston, and I am proud of this victory. This was the first of our three finals, as we had to win today.

TURKEY 5-1 BELARUS
Abdullah Avci, Turkey coach
If I compare our performance with the game against England, I think we started a bit slower today. Still we managed to create four or five opportunities in the first half. Than we scored and Belarus had a player sent off meaning everything became much easier for us. However I have to congratulate Belarus because the game was balanced until we went 3-1 up. Even today we wasted too many goal opportunities. It is a problem, but we know it and we will try to solve it.

Piotr Mikheyeu, Belarus coach
I knew Turkey were very strong and I think they are serious contenders for winning the title. Unfortunately today we did not manage to play our favourite direct style because we were a bit tired. We still don't have the necessary physical preparation to play three games in six days. Moreover we had to play with only ten men from the first half and by consequence we had to run more that Turkey. It's normal we got tired in the final part of the game and Turkey were able to score many goals and could have scored even more. It was not easy for us even because Turkey have great players like Caner Erkin, Nuri Sahin and Özgürcan Özcan.
