Vlasov misses rest of U17 finals

Russia defender Anton Vlasov will play no further part in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship due to a hamstring tear suffered against Spain.

Russia defender Anton Vlasov will play no further part in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship due to a hamstring tear.

Fortnight out
The tall centre-back suffered the injury during the second half of their 3-0 defeat by Spain in Hesperange on Friday. Vlasov received treatment but was unable to continue with Russia having already used their three substitutes. Further examination at the weekend confirmed that he would be unable to play for at least a fortnight, with the final in Luxembourg only seven days away.

Semi-final hope
Vlasov, who turns 17 on Thursday, will remain with the squad and will hope to be cheering them on in the semi-finals on his birthday. To get there they must defeat Luxembourg tomorrow in Hesperange and hope Spain beat Hungary.
