Switzerland surge to summit

Switzerland picked up three wins to top Group 1 – and Greece pipped Luxembourg to the other available Elite round berth on goal difference.

Switzerland picked up three wins to top UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round Group 1 – and Greece pipped Luxembourg to the other available Elite round berth on goal difference.

Duo draw
A close race between Greece and Luxembourg always looked likely when they drew 1-1 on the opening day in Bodio. Hosts Switzerland overcame Kazakhstan 4-0 in Lugano, with Fabio Daprelà opening the scoring on five minutes and Steven Zuber, Nassim Ben Khalifa and Daprelà adding further goals after the break.

Switzerland through
Two days later Greece travelled to Lugano and defeated Kazakhstan 3-1 allowing Yves Débonnaire's side to book their progress one game early with another 4-0 success against Luxembourg. Fisnik Sabedini and Dino Rebronja gave Switzerland a two-goal half-time lead and Marco Aratore struck twice following the interval in Ascona.

Greece survive
Luxembourg gave themselves a chance of a place in November's Elite round draw with a 3-2 win against Kazakhstan in Ascona, but they still needed Switzerland to defeat Greece by a six-goal margin in Bodio. As it was, Switzerland won 2-1 as although Ben Khalifa's 55th-minute goal was cancelled out Admir Mehmedi decided matters with five minutes to go – but by then Greece were already out of danger in terms of elimination.
