Five-goal win gives Dutch control

The Netherlands are just one point away from a place in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals after a convincing win against Belarus put them in control of Elite round Group 4.

Dutch top
On Tuesday the Dutch and Belarus overcame Wales and mini-tournament hosts Turkey respectively 1-0, so both knew victory in Antalya would leave them top with just one fixture remaining and in pole position to reach the finals in Belgium in May. Goals from Luciano Narsingh, Leroy Fer and Nacer Barazite plus two by Genero Zeefuik ensured a comfortable Dutch success today, though Turkey's 3-0 defeat of Wales means they are not confirmed as group winners.

One point away
However, a draw against Turkey on Sunday would be enough for the Netherlands to top the group, and if Belarus beat Wales then the Dutch would be able to afford a loss by two goals or fewer. Belarus, however, cannot qualify as even if they overcome Wales and Turkey also prevail to leave the three contenders on six points, the former Soviet republic would lose out in a head-to-head tie-breaker with the hosts and the Dutch.
