France striker Yannis Tafer outscored all the other players in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship group stage by at least two goals, and has already surpassed last year's highest finals tally of three, after striking twice in yesterday's 2-0 defeat of Switzerland.
Tafer leads trio
The win took France into the semi-finals as Group B runners-up, Tafer having previously equalised in the 2-1 defeat of the Republic of Ireland and opened the scoring as Les Mini-Bleus drew 3-3 with Spain. Thiago struck twice at the other end in that game, and indeed two other players achieved that feat for Spain; Sergi in the 2-0 win against Switzerland and substitute Rubén as Ireland were seen off 3-1 last night to give the holders first place in Group B ahead of France on goal difference.
Season's stars
In Group A two players managed a pair of goals. Geoffrey Castillion put the Netherlands ahead in Saturday's semi-final clinching victory against Scotland having managed the only goal three days earlier against Serbia, whose striker Danijel Aleksić also has scored twice. Those goals came against Scotland on Matchday 1 and although Serbia are out Aleksić shares with Castillion another feat; they have both scored nine times in this season's competition including qualifying, putting them three clear of anyone else including Tafer.
