Greece moved to the top of UEFA European Under-17 Championship Elite round Group 1 on home soil after ending the hopes of Slovenia.

Potouridis strikes
Both these sides needed a positive result as Greece had been held 1-1 by Switzerland in Thursday's openers while Slovenia lost 2-0 to Poland. Ioannis Potouridis put Greece in control with goals on nine and 18 minutes, and Slovenia's hopes all but went after Rok Medved was sent off late in the first half for a second bookable offence.

'Good football'
Home coach Giorgos Semertzidis, whose side now lead Switzerland on goal difference and are a point ahead of Poland, said: "We played good football and I think we deserved the win. The score would have been greater if we had taken our chances, especially in the second half." His side now will qualify if they beat Poland on Tuesday, unless Switzerland defeat Slovenia by enough to overtake their goal difference, and Semertzidis added: "The next game is crucial and decisive, but I think the boys will meet the requirements and will do their duty to qualify for the finals."
