FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi scored twice from the penalty spot as Argentina defeated Nigeria 2-1 to win the FIFA World Youth Championship for a record fifth time.
Messi magic
The 18-year-old opened the scoring on 39 minutes after being upended in the penalty box by Dele Adeleye. Chinedu Ogbuke's glancing header brought Nigeria level on 53 minutes, but Messi clinched the world title for Argentina with a second penalty in the 74th minute after substitute Sergio Aguero was impeded. The two goals meant the midfield player finished as the tournament's leading scorer with six goals.
Brazilian consolation
Earlier today, two late goals helped Brazil come from behind to claim the bronze medal at the expense of Morocco in the third-placed play-off. The Atlas Lions took the lead in first-half added time after Adil Hermach's found the net with the aid of a deflection off Edcarlos, but Brazil hit back in the final two minutes with Santos's header restoring parity before Edcarlos headed in the winner in the closing moments.
