Poland and Norway dominated the Group 2 mini-tournament from the outset and duly progressed to the next round of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
Impressive Polish
The Polish were most impressive of all, winning all three of their games, scoring five goals in the process and conceding none. They opened their account with a 3-0 victory against Latvia, with Lukasz Piszczek scoring twice. Meanwhile, Norway also picked up three points by beating Cyprus 4-1 - with Daniel Fredheim Holm netting a double.
Norway scrape past Latvia
In the next round of games the Norwegians scrapped past Latvia 3-2. Holm gave Norway an early lead but Kristpas Blanks levelled matters within four minutes. Mohammed Abdellaoui restored Norway's advantage in the 63rd minute but Alexander Šumilovs once again drew the sides level in the 83rd minute. However Norway secured the three points, and a place in the next round, when Abdellaoui struck again with just five minutes remaining.
Polish struggle
Meanwhile, Poland struggled to subdue Cyprus - ultimately winning 1-0 and securing their own second-round place thanks to a 62nd-minute goal from Marcin Kowalczyk.
Pride to play for
With only pride, and top spot, to play for in the last set of games there was less tension, but no less entertainment value. Poland overcame Norway 1-0 to top the group, Gregorz Szymanek scoring the only goal, while Latvia came from 2-0 down after ten minutes to beat Cyprus 4-2 to secure third place.
Not enough
However the Latvian performance was not enough to keep them in the running for the second-round place on offer to the best third-placed side from round one - Sweden currently lead the way in that race.
