Article body
Two goals from David Jiménez Silva either side of a Carlos Carmona strike saw Spain earn a 3-0 win in their opening UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite round Group 3 match against Israel at the Ciudad Deportiva de Talayuela.
Penalty opener
With France having gained three points after defeating Portugal 3-2 earlier in the evening, the pressure was on Ginés Meléndez's side from kick-off. Spain launched wave upon wave of attacks on the Israeli goal but were unable to capitalise on their early pressure. They finally got the breakthrough in the 39th minute after Israel goalkeeper Gil Offek had been dismissed for a foul in the area - Silva firing in the resulting penalty to put Spain ahead.
Evenly balanced
Spain struggled to make their man advantage count during the second half as both teams shared possession until the final minutes. Then Carmona smashed a glorious second into the top corner to put the hosts two goals up before Silva rifled in his second of the night, and Spain's third, in added time. Spain next play the Portuguese on Thursday, when Israel are France's opponents.
