Greek glee in Vöcklabruck

Slovakia 0-2 Greece Lazaros Christodopoulos and Dimitris Kiliaras earn a first qualification since 1999.

Greece reached the finals of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship for the first time as a third successive victory wrapped up first place in Elite round Group 5.

Christodopoulos conversion
Greece - who lasted reached these finals in 1999, when the tournament was played as a U18 event - went into their final game at the Vöcklabruck stadium knowing that a point would prove sufficient to earn a berth in this summer's final tournament in Northern Ireland. Lazaros Christodopoulos went close to opening the scoring in the 17th minute, but did manage to break the deadlock seven minutes later, rounding off fine work by Stylianos Iliadis on the left wing.

Clinching second
Needing a win to keep their qualification hopes alive, Slovakia pressed forward as the second half got under way, but Erik Jendrisek's cross-shot went narrowly wide and Greek goalkeeper Alexandros Kasmeridis denied Jakub Rondzik to keep his side in front. The points, and a finals place, were secured by Dimitris Kiliaras four minutes from time, capitalising on another assist by Iliadis to set off Greek celebrations.
