Scotland 2-0 Slovakia Steven Naismith and Ross McCormack strike to revive Scotland's hopes.
Article body
Scotland revived their hopes of reaching the final tournament of the 2004/05 UEFA European Under-19 Championship with a 2-0 victory against Slovakia to move level with them on three points in Elite round Group 5.
McCormack decisive
In sweltering conditions at the Mondsee stadium, Scotland coped better than in their opening group game against Greece - a 1-0 defeat - and went in ahead at the break courtesy of a Steven Naismith goal. Scotland doubled their lead in the second period through Ross McCormack and could have added further goals only to squander several good openings, as well as striking the crossbar.
Qualification hopes
The win for Archie Gemmill's team moves them level on three points with Slovakia, but three points adrift of pool leaders Greece, who ended Austria's qualification hopes by defeating them 2-1. Slovakia will qualify for the final tournament if they defeat Greece in their final game on Tuesday and Scotland fail to win against Austria, although if Slovakia and Scotland both collect three points, the section will be decided on goal difference.
