Turkey ended Republic of Ireland's hopes of progressing to the finals of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship as they eased to a 3-1 victory to set up a decisive fixture against Slovakia in the final round of matches in Elite round Group 2 on Tuesday.
Rooney equaliser
Having eased to an emphatic 6-0 win against Georgia in their opening fixture, Cem Pamiroglu's team looked on course for another three points when Caner Erkin scored his second goal in three days. But they were made to work for the victory as Stoke City FC's Adam Rooney equalised soon after the restart only for Caner's Vestel Manisaspor team-mate Arda Turan to restore the lead just after the hour. Defender İlhan Parlak made it 3-1 with 17 minutes remaining, meaning all now rests on Tuesday's game against Slovakia, who are level with Turkey on six points.
